How-to: Installing Microsoft IIS 10 on Microsoft Server for Exact Synergy Enterprise

Introduction

Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows® Server is a flexible, secure and manageable web server for hosting anything on the Web. From media streaming to web applications, the scalable and open architecture pertinent to IIS is ready to handle the most demanding tasks.

Exact Synergy Enterprise relies heavily on Microsoft Internet Information Services. Windows Server does not install Internet Information Services (IIS) by default. The following steps explain how to install IIS on Windows Server 2016.

Note: The options for .NET compatibility for Windows Server 2019 and 2022 are versions 4.7 and 4.8 respectively.

Installing IIS on Windows Server 2016

1. Go to Start and type “Server Manager”, and then select Server Manager.
2. In the Server Manager screen, click the Manage menu, and then click Add Roles and Features.
3. The Add Roles and Features wizard will start with the Before You Begin screen.
4. In the Before You Begin screen, click Next.
5. In the Installation Type screen, select Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next.
6. In the Server Selection screen, select Select a server from the server pool, and then select a server. Click Next.
7. In the Server Roles screen, select Web Server (IIS). Click Next.
8. In the Add Roles and Features wizard, click Add Features to install the IIS Management Console, and then click Next.
9. In the Select features screen, select:
• .NET Framework 4.6 Features > WCF Services > HTTP Activation
10. Click Next.
11. In the Web Server Role (IIS) screen, click Next.
12. In the Role Services screen, select the following, as a minimum:
• Common HTTP Features:
  • Common HTTP Features > Static Content
• Security:
  • Security > Basic Authentication
  • Security > Windows Authentication
• Application Development:
  • Application Development > .NET Extensibility 3.5
  • Application Development > .NET Extensibility 4.6
  • Application Development > ASP
  • Application Development > ASP .NET 3.5
  • Application Development > ASP .NET 4.6
  • Application Development > ISAPI Extension
  • Application Development > ISAPI Filters
• Management Tools:
  • Management Tools > IIS Management Console
  • Management Tools > IIS Management Scripts and Tools
  • Management Tools > Management Service
  • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility
  • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility > IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
  • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility > IIS 6 Management Console
  • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility > IIS 6 Scripting Tools
  • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility > IIS 6 WMI Compatibility
13. Click Next.
14. In the Confirmation screen, verify the role services and features that are selected and if needed, specify an alternate source path (Windows Server install media).
15. Click Install.
16. When the installation is finished, click Close.

Test the web service

After installing IIS and Exact Synergy Enterprise, you can test the web service by entering the following url in your web browser: http://<servername>/<virtualdirectory>/services/Exact.Entity.Profile.svc
where you replace <servername> with your server name and <virtualdirectory> with the virtual directory for your Exact Synergy Enterprise.
